The Chair Showcase
- The ChairShowcase presents around 130 of the museum’s chairs, sorted along a time axis, with the oldest from the 17th century and the newest being an acquisition from 2008. This is equivalent to around 25 percent of the museum’s chair collection. These are chairs that represent important design from the ends of the 16th century onwards. The overwhelming majority are Swedish chairs, even if there is some foreign chairs as well.
This open storage exhibition is a new way of displaying the collection. The chair exhibition ensures that the collection is stored well, but also functions as a permanent exhibition. The chronological order is interesting, as it means it is immediately possible to see how different styles follow each other and what the museum has found interesting to collect as representative of different eras.
