  • Märta Måås - Fjetterström

  • 1873 - 1941
  • Märta Måås-Fjetterström was a priest’s daughter, born in Vadstena in 1873. To be able to work as a drawing teacher, she studied at a school for arts and crafts in Stockholm (now Konstfack), but after a few years teaching in Jönköping she was employed by Kulturen in Lund in 1902, and in 1905 she started work as a pattern constructor at Malmöhus hemslöjdsförening, where her task was to preserve the textile traditions of Skåne. However, her own ambition as a pattern creator was to renew, resulting in the Staffan Stalledräng tapestry from 1909. The work resulted in Måås-Fjetterström being sacked, which was the starting point of her true career. In 1919 she was given the opportunity to open her own studio in the newly built national-romantic Strandgården in Båstad, where she then worked until her death in 1941. During these 22 years she created over 700 patterns.
