New acquisitions in the collections

Every year, the Röhsska Museum collects new items. All items acquired are gifts or purchased for donated funds. Today, the museum disposes of several purchases funds managed in foundation form, and the museum also receives a large amount of donations from the public each year, the Association of Friends of the Röhsska Museum, as well as manufacturers and producers.

The Röhsska Museum's mission includes a responsibility to monitor and collect design and craft items and preserve them for the posterity. The museum's collection consists mainly of Swedish objects, but significant international objects are also incorporated into the collections. Within several material categories, the museum is working to supplement existing collections, but the museum is also actively collecting new expressions and materials.

The museum works according to the high requirements for collection and conservation work that have been set by ICOM, the International Council of Museums. The Röhsska Museum's ambition is to leave a comprehensive design and crafts collection, containing significant objects that reflect the time we live in, in virtually unchanged condition for future generations. On a regular basis, the museum's new acquisitions are presented in temporary exhibitions showing the purchases and gifts of recent years.
