  • The Baroque Chamber
  • The Baroque Chamber comes from Gamla Sockerbruket in Gamlestaden (the old sugarworks in the old town), Göteborg. Jacob Sahlgren – merchant, member of the National Board of Trade and, from 1778, mayor of Göteborg – founded the sugar refinery, where the main building was built in 1729.

The interior, which is around 19 sq. m., has an unpainted – soaped – wooden floor and a ceiling of stretched heavy duty paper painted with gesso, as well as skirting boards, wooden panels, other coving, a door and a ceramic tile stove. The chamber’s walls consist of fabric painted with oils, are about 28 sq. m. and depict a fascinating southern landscape. The room is a fine example of a decorative interior art in Swedish industry during the 18th century.
